When an iPhone is lost or stolen, many owners rely on Apple’s Lost Mode to lock the device and display a helpful contact message. Scammers use that very message—often containing the owner’s email or main phone number—to send fake “your phone has been found” texts that link to a page designed to steal your Apple ID. Instead of listing your primary email or number on the lock screen, use an alternate contact so thieves can’t target you directly. With stolen Apple ID credentials, scammers can unlock and wipe the device for resale and may even access your photos, messages, and other sensitive data.
