Meta is bringing back Facebook’s old “poke” feature in an attempt to attract younger users.
The company has added new elements, including “counts,” a dedicated poke button, and a tracking page, to gamify the experience.
While Meta hopes this will boost engagement among teens, critics warn that such features resemble addictive mechanics commonly found on other platforms, such as Snapchat and TikTok. Facebook’s challenge remains steep, as recent Pew data shows teens strongly prefer TikTok two-to-one over Facebook.
